The streets of Pompeii & Herculaneum (Italy)

As eerie as these streets are today, imgaine a queue of locals waiting at the corner take-away food cafes (those holes were full of food).

Looking across Pompeii

These towns were really quite a paradise before that fateful day when Vesuvius errupted.

At the bottom of the picture below is the final resting place of many of the inhabitants of Ercolano, crowded in the boatsheds on the edge of the shore.

  1. Hi Robin, Great pictures of my most favourite places. I have visited Sorrento many times and always head for the two ruined cities. One observation, if you don’t mind me mentioning, you have called the volcano Etna?
