Mellerstain House – of William Adam, completed by Robert (Berwickshire)

It rained and I remember nothing of note other than

(1) being told to put my camera in the car before I would be allowed entry;

(2) the characters in the tea room; and

(3) that the wings date from circa 1725 (William Adam) but the central block was not built until the 1780s (Robert Adam).

Oh, and the toilets were nice and I think there was some sort of museum in the attic.

This is what happens when I’m not allowed to take pictures.  When the house then puts their own pictures of the interiors on their website, it makes even less sense to me.

It serves me right for waiting nearly a year to write the trip up.

When visited: July 2014
