Sizergh Castle gardens (Cumbria)

The fact that Sizergh lies virtually off the main road meant that as our gateway into the Lake District, we stopped off at Sizergh.  The house wasn’t open to respect family time (it’s one of those NT houses where the donating family got quite a good deal, which means Saturdays = no  tourists in the house), but that didn’t matter because all I really wanted to see again was the Japanese rock garden.

We stopped off first at Lower Sizergh Farm Shop & Tea Room, which I highly recommend (only 2 minutes away)

We also saw some lovely ferns, just uncurling their fronds.

When visited: April 2014
